Heute Abend: Lola Blau
Kulturforum Illenau, Achern, Germany
The Badische Landesbühne presents the one-woman musical by Austrian composer, chansonnier and cabaret artist Georg Kreisler.
Austria, March 1938. Lola Blau is just starting out in her theatre career. She has finished her acting training in Vienna and a job in Linz is waiting for her. Why should she worry about the turbulent times.
Then Hitler marches into Austria and Lola flees to Switzerland, later to the USA. After the war she returns home, only to find that life there is still far from any tolerant coexistence.
Georg Kreisler wrote this entertaining yet bitterly sharp one-person piece in 1971. "Heute Abend: Lola Blau" follows Lola as she tries to survive the Nazi threat through wit, melancholy, art, love and her obsession with showbusiness. It hits both heart and mind - intelligent and cutting, making the audience laugh and cry in equal measure.
In the Badische Landesbühne production, the role of Lola Blau is played by actress, dancer and musical performer Laura Brettschneider.
