Among young German choral conductors, Alexander Lüken stands out as a distinctive voice. The 2024 Eric Ericson Award winner works as a choir founder, artistic director and singer, with a particular focus on new and rarely performed music. His premiere recording of the Christus trilogy by Friedrich Schneider - a near-forgotten contemporary of Mendelssohn - earned him a nomination for the Opus Klassik prize. With the MDR-Rundfunkchor he has shaped a programme devoted to musical depictions of nature, in keeping with the festival's overarching theme, drawing unexpected connections between the works.
